Another week…

In diving deeper into ramping up to where you can build out a sales team that has amazing habits and efficient systems, here is how you realign the way they see themselves.

I hate limiting beliefs.

It’s such a self-inflicting pain point.

So, I wanted to bring some concepts to break them by changing how you see yourself or how your team sees themselves.

The idea is to help individuals reshaping perceptions of who they are and what they are capable of achieving, which in turn drives their actions and results.

Step 1: Establish a Clear Vision of the Desired Identity

Ideally, you begin by helping your sales team envision the type of sellers hey want to become.

This involves creating a clear and compelling picture of the traits and successes of an ideal seller within the context of their roles.

Question: "Imagine you are the top-performing salesperson on this team; what key habits do you think they exhibit daily?"

Question: "What values and characteristics do you think define the best in our field?"

Step 2: Encourage Self-Reflection

Guide your team through a process of self-reflection to evaluate how their current identity aligns with the envisioned identity.

This helps in identifying gaps and areas that require change.

Question: "How do your current selling practices reflect the identity of a top performer?"

Question: "What beliefs about selling do you hold that might be holding you back?"

Step 3: Foster Identity-Based Habit Formation

After establishing the vision and conducting self-reflection, encourage your team to adopt habits that align with the identity of a top salesperson.

Stress the importance of small, consistent actions that reflect their new identity.

Question: "What small change can you make today that aligns with being a top sales professional?"

Question: "What routines can we establish that reinforce this new identity daily?"

Step 4: Reinforcement Through Recognition

Use positive reinforcement to acknowledge actions and behaviors that align with the desired identity.

This could include public recognition, rewards, or simply verbal affirmation in meetings.

Question: "Can you share a recent success that demonstrates your growth towards our shared vision of a top salesperson?"

Question: "How do you feel these achievements are contributing to your new identity as a leader in sales?"

Step 5: Continuous Improvement and Feedback

To ensure that the identity change is ongoing and effective, implement regular feedback loops where the sales team can assess their progress, discuss challenges, and refine their approaches.

Question: "What feedback do you have for me on how I can better support your journey toward this new identity?"

Question: "What part of your new habits feels most aligned with who you want to become?"

Step 6: Integration into Corporate Culture

Finally, integrate these concepts into the broader corporate culture, promoting an environment where identity growth is recognized as integral to professional development and success.

Question: "How can we as a team continuously foster a culture that supports profound personal and professional growth?"

Question: "What can we incorporate into our daily or weekly routines that reinforce our commitment to these identity shifts?"

By employing these strategies, you would not only help your sales team adopt more effective habits but fundamentally shift how they view themselves within their roles.

This identity-focused approach is designed to cultivate a deeper, motivation to achieve and maintain high performance, leading to sustained excellence and success.
